Whole honey from the Umbre hills

Chestnut honey is among the varieties the least sweet, with sour and bitter notes. It is characterized by its dark tones, tending to brown and reddish. The tree species that gives us this precious nectar is the Castanea sativa Mill., the same tree from which we can also harvest chestnuts, which are typical of the autumn period, unlike the flowering that occurs in the summer.

  • CHESTNUT HONEY DESCRIPTION

This variety of honey is a monofloral, made exclusively from the flowers of the Chestnut tree found in our Umbrian hills.

With a bitter taste, it is much appreciated by those who consider the sweetness of other types of honey a bit cloying.

It has the characteristic of containing a high percentage of fructose, which is why it tends to remain liquid.

  • COLOR, SMELL AND TASTE

Chestnut honey has a typical color that tends to dark brown, almost reddish.

Its bold, bitter and at times woody notes stand out on the palate. It is pungent on the nose with smells of leather and smoke.

  • HARVEST SEASON

This variety is produced between July and late August.

  • PAIRINGS

Because it is not very sweet and has astringent notes, it is recommended with grilled meats, game or aged cheeses (pecorino, goat).

  • CONSERVATION

Store in a cool, dry place away from heat sources, preferably in the dark.

    Close tightly after each use.
